This report focuses on how electronic data capture (EDC) is gaining traction in the
pharmaceutical clinical trials arena. Today approximately half of all clinical trials are
conducted electronically, and the figure is rapidly rising. Evolving technology has
afforded many opportunities but is also creating its own challenges, which the
industry is now waking up to. This report also looks at the impact of EDC and its
newest iteration, which is accessed online and has a zero footprint. The new
technology allows it to be used anywhere in the world where the Internet is available,
and in turn places a greater onus on the way that trials are supported globally. The
critical focus of this new technology is that it must support the work of the person
at the heart of the clinical trial system - the investigator.
